For as long as anyone can remember, the Island of Sodor has been the home of the North Western Railway with engines of all shapes and sizes working hard to deliver goods and passengers to their destinations. There are branch lines that run along the coast of the island serving the docks, the fishing villages and the seaside towns....and if you were to travel along Mrs. Kyndley's favorite coastal route to Tidmouth Bay as revealed in Season 5's 'Make Someone Happy', you would pass by the Tidmouth Beach Lighthouse which sailors depend upon as a shining beacon to see where they're going and to keep them safely off the rocks at night or in stormy weather as shown by the team efforts of Salty and Fergus when the lighthouse generator broke in Season 7's "Salty's Stormy Tale".  But now that it's Thomas' turn to help at the lighthouse as we celebrate National Lighthouse Day on top of continuing our fifteen-year anniversary celebration for Season 11 of Thomas & Friends, it seems that the lighthouse is not the only one with a dim bulb; this is 'Thomas and the Lighthouse'!

The episode is half and half for me, it was not bad despite the two strikes in the overused 'three strikes, you're out' formula that this era of the series was known for and the grammar for the sentence "Thomas 'speeded up'"-I mean, what's wrong with 'Thomas sped up'?!  Also, I know realism was not the main focus of the Hit Era of the original series, but the light bulb should've been carried in a vent van seeing as James had the fireworks in vent vans so what's with not having the lightbulb in a van?
But with that all said and done, the ending was good with Thomas understanding that his job is more important than the harvest festival and it was great to see the model of Cyril the Fogman since Season 6's 'The Fogman' before he went on a hiatus until Season 22's 'Samson and the Fireworks' even though he was known as 'The Lighthouse Keeper' in this episode.  So overall, 'Thomas and the Lighthouse' is not bad and it's in the okay category for episodes in the Hit Era in its entirety and for that earned itself a rating of a 3.5 out of 5.
