Book Covers & Characters Revealed For 2017 Special: "Journey Beyond Sodor"
January 21, 2017As we know, every Thomas & Friends special has GoldenBook Tie-ins. The same is the case with Journey Beyond Sodor. So, today, the covers for those Golden-Books were unveiled. Two of the book-covers were revealed. One being a two-book set, while the other a single book. The two covers, one simply titled "Journey Beyond Sodor"; and the other, "Thomas At The Steelworks" and "Friends To The Rescue" - 2 pack:
The two book covers exhibit a host of characters, five in total. But we know very less about them, yet. Assumptions about their names have been made, as follows (some names were also previously seen in "Adventures" toy line product-titles - no description was revealed though):
1. Theo
Seemingly the main character, and it would be interesting to see how he (and all the other characters, actually) would fit with the James storyline. Assumptions for his basis have been made, many quite similar to the design. He has a dark green livery, with a seemingly-small face, as his illustration reveals. His name might also be "Theodore" - it has not been confirmed.
2. Merlin
Merlin is an engine, with three funnels - and that is practically all we know about him. He appears in a single book cover, bearing the number 783, with a greyish livery:
3. Frankie
The one of the two female-characters, with a black livery. She bears "M. S. C." on the top, which may be "Manchester Steel Company." (?) She also bears the number, "4002". There have been debates about her being a diesel or a steam engine. While she does look like a diesel, she has a funnel on top - true, this does not mean she's a steam engine, but we aren't sure yet.
4. Lexi
The second new female character from "Journey Beyond Sodor" is Lexi. She is blue, all rusted - very little is known about her except the fact that she appears really old. She appears on two book covers:
5. Hurricane
The newbie, who looks very much like the villain. Is he? Is he not? We don't know yet. He has a red coat, a tender - and that's pretty much all, except the fact that his expressions are kind of cunning:
Aside from Thomas appearing on all three covers, those are all the characters. Both the covers spot an industrial background, and the logo itself has gears all around it:
We know that the special will be 70 minutes, involving "James going off to the Mainland and other engines finding him" and also, some "experimental engines"; we now have a brief idea about the new characters' names and how they look - and that's all we know right now!
