ThomasNATION Reviews - Cleo the Road Engine
July 12, 2020
Hey all, JF here, and todayās review is gonna be an interesting one for sure. Cleo the Road Engine is another in which weāre introduced to a new character, which in this case is Cleo. But how does her introductory episode go? Letās begin.
The story of the episode is relatively simple: Thomas meets a new friend, a road engine named Cleo presumably invented by Ruth. And the rest of the episode is just a showcase of the two goofing around.
Once again, this episode isnāt much to scream over. Itās just a perfectly servicable episode.
To start, the story isnāt really much, but the episode is still kinda fun. The shenanigans of the pair is pretty enjoyable to watch, especially when the pair race. Iāll also give credit that they do acknowledge how out of place a flying car is in the Thomas world is by saying the world isnāt ready for it.
Another thing I like here is that Cleo is a good character. Her design is really creative and I love her personality, as she always acts like a wide-eyed toddler. Iāll also give credit to Harriet Kershaw, who gives Cleo a relatively adorable voice. But really, thereās not much to criticise with her charac-
OH NOā¦
This scene doesnāt necessarily add anything to the story, and barely lasts 15 seconds, but it still feels out of place and only exists toā¦actually I canāt think of any reason why this is in here other than to be a visual distraction. What makes it even worse is how pointless it is in the grand scheme of things. There's no reason for this scene to happen because of one question: isn't Cleo a car? She could just turn around on the road without pulling this weird crap that wouldn't feel out of place in Chuggington.
So in short, Cleo the Road Engine is decent. Itās not the best of the lineup, but itās a fine introductory episode for Cleo. If youāre curious to see Cleo in action, then go ahead. But if you think the idea of an engine on the road is dumb, then you may as well skip it (also where were you when Flynn came aboard?). I had been juggling the score a little, but Iāve finally settled on a 2.5/5.
Final Score: 2.5/5
