ThomasNATION Classic Reviews - Charlie and Eddie

July 30, 2022

Charlie has a reputation for being a really fun engine, he has an unquenchable desire for fun as well as games and play and is said to have been the favourite engine of The Mainland Controller. Charlie can get easily distracted by his japes, sometimes distracting others in the process. He can be pouty, huffy and teasing at times but he always wants everyone to be enjoying themselves. Often though, Charlie has to learn that the opinions of others, keeping calm and working hard to completing jobs foremost are important if when wanting to be a really useful engine. He has a good working relationship with Edward-often calling him "Eddie"-who is sometimes capable of taking Charlie under his wing and Thomas who Charlie enjoys racing and sharing in the fun with. Being a fun-loving playful scamp, cheeky Charlie is popular at parties and fairs, is well liked by the children and known for his youthful humor. And speaking of his good working relationship with Edward, that's the adventure we're gonna look at today to celebrate our playful puffer.  Let's laugh out loud with 'Charlie and Eddie'...and no, I don't mean the American soul music duo from the 90's.

CHARLIE AND EDDIE: Edward tries to show Charlie that he is a fun engine instead of delivering Sir Topham Hatt's car to a mechanic

---
Edward has always been described as an old but wise engine in the Railway Series and the television series, but here, he was determined about his job until Charlie appeared and you'll know that this episode is going down the drain. I hate how Charlie accused Edward of not being 'fun' when really Edward wouldn't even care about having fun, just doing his normal jobs is more important. I hate how Sir Topham Hatt accused Edward for what happened to his car when really it was Charlie's fault for not letting Edward going to the mechanic on time, Sir Topham Hatt would've trusted Edward instead of accusing him.  Then again, some CGI episodes does leave some nostalgic easter eggs, by accident or just for fun, we had the Original Thomas theme in 'Percy and The Calliope' and in this episode it reminded us about 'Bertie's Chase' when Edward and Charlie were chasing Bertie who had the mechanic.
Despite that, I never liked Charlie since his debut and that Edward is out of character in this episode, this episode is an okay watch but it needed some work and a better plot. This just felt like 'Play Time' all over again, thus I'm gonna give 'Charlie and Eddie' a rating of a 2.5 out of 5.  Some jokes are funny, but this episode sure wasn't.

Final Rating: 2.5/5
