ThomasNATION Reviews - Pop a Wheelie

April 20, 2024

I went on about this extensively in my last two Diesel-centric reviews, but when he was first introduced in Season 2's 'Pop Goes the Diesel', Diesel was very devious and maniacal, the type of guy that would flip any situation in his favor and win it if he put his mind to it.  But as the show went on, he just turned into a brute reduced to nothing but a selfish bully who picks on others just for the sake of it. So as you can imagine, a lot of fans, including myself, took issue with the fact that Diesel, the series' villain, would be shown as one of Thomas' closest buddies.
As a result, it shouldn't really come as a surprise to any fan of Thomas young or old that I'm honestly getting really sick of seeing Thomas and Diesel constantly trying to outdo each other at their own game in everything we've seen so far in All Engines Go since it always follows the same old formula of the two engines competing against one another only to realize they were idiots and put aside their differences to work together.  'A Wide Delivery' may have used this trope as well, but what made that episode so memorable was how it presented the moral about finding common ground with an enemy which is something that wasn't really taught before in the original Thomas & Friends series.
Here, however, this may be the nail in the coffin that kills any interest that I have in any 'Thomas vs. Diesel' episodes of the reboot anymore. And for an episode like this that ended up causing so much confusion and delay, I unfortunately have to give 'Pop A Wheelie' a rating of a 2.5/5.
