ThomasNATION Classic Reviews - Buzzy Bees
April 26, 2025Y'know, out of all the insects in the world, bees are the ones that I have the most...no opinion on. I mean, their role in food production is important, though I did get stung by one once...I dunno, they're bees. Unless they sound like Jerry Seinfeld, I don't have much to say. I will say, however, that when it comes to Thomas and bees, they already have a strong episode with "Buzz Buzz", a classic James story. But that's a story for another day - now, there's this episode, Buzzy Bees. Is this episode a real honeyā¦yeah, thatās the best I got, sue me. Letās begin.
Thomas is tasked with taking bees to Farmer Trotter as he struggles to keep them in their hives and...wait, what? What do you mean that's it? That can't be the whole plot!
Yeah, as you can guess, the story's insanely bland. It's just "Thomas takes bees, the bees escape and...that's it." There's nothing new done with it, the pacing is incredibly tedious, there isn't even enough characters to keep the story engaging. It's mainly just Thomas on his own aside from occasionally chatting to Hiro. They don't even have the three strikes formula - normally I'd praise a Miller-era episode for not doing that, but here, I'd make the argument that the formula would've added something.
The only real thing of note here is that scene where Hiro calls Thomas out for not doing his work and Thomas just sits there while the narrator rambles on for 15 seconds. Not only is it a good example of this era's over-reliance on Michael Angelis and Michael Brandon, but in the context of the show...idk, it's kinda funny. Thomas just sits there for 15 seconds saying nothing - out of context, that's hilarious.
Overall, this is one of the few episodes of the show that I can only describe as...nothing. The story isn't anything special, neither is the execution - it's one of the most forgettable episodes of the show. It's kinda hard to recommend this episode to anyone, since what's the point in watching it when Buzz, Buzz is right there? That episode at least has substance to it. I guess at its core, Buzzy Bees is inoffensive - you won't harm anyone watching it, but at the same time, I've just watched it and I've already forgotten everything that happens, and so have you. And as such, I'm giving this a 1/5.
