ThomasNATION Reviews - Brand New Track
June 07, 2025
Of all the episodes of All Engines Go!, I was the most curious about this episode going into the season. Why? Because truth be told, I just liked the premise - Thomas and Percy exploring a new stretch of track before it's opened. That's a really fun premise. But then again, I have gotten my hopes up for a cool idea only to be disappointed coming out like with Valentine's Hearts. Will this episode live up to its fun idea or will it be another letdown? Let's begin.
Carly and Sandy are putting together a new stretch of track set to open the next day that Thomas and Percy want to go down, so they do once the ribbon gets blown away. And frankly...that's it.
You'd think that'd make the episode more mundane and slow. But actually, the episode's biggest benefit is in its simplicity. The story takes a more uncomplicated turn and as such, its pace is more laid back so it can focus on the new track itself. Okay, the new track itself isn't anything new, but the point of it is seeing it from Thomas and Percy's point of view, and this is where I think their portrayal as kids works. Every scene oozes a childlike whimsy from Thomas and Percyās exploring.
However, I can't act like everything in this episode works. Thereās a running gag about the two of them thinking everything is old and ancient and it does get old a little quick, and the twist at the end is a little predictable. That, and Iām not too big on the song. āStuck in the Mud at Nightā is a song about being stuck in theā¦something, I dunno. But the lyrics and melody are a little generic. Itās not bad, but is is one of the more forgettable songs in the series.
But overall, Brand New Track is pretty okay. While the plot isnāt anything new or exciting, resulting in a lame twist and a mid song, but the charm of its simplicity does elevate it a little to make it watchable. Is it a high priority watch? Definitely not, but there are worse ways to spend eight minutes, so Iām gonna give this a 3/5.
