Ah yes, who doesn't love sitting down and enjoying a good superhero movie? I may have said this in my review of James the Super Engine, but some of my favorite movies and movie theatre experiences do come from the superhero genre. We've already seen an engine wishing to be a cool superhero (in the aforementioned James the Super Engine, as it would happen), but what about an episode that reflects the hype that comes with this type of movie? So now that Thomas is making sure the premiere goes right, will the feature presentation live up to the hype, or will it just end up like films like Batman & Robin or Green Lantern? Let's begin.
Thomas and Percy are really hyped for the new Ultratrain movie to see how it wraps up its cliffhanger ending when Thomas is asked to deliver the screen with Nia for the film's premiere. The only problem? Keeping the screen itself clean.
Much like Thomas' Day Off and License to Deliver, a lot of the episode is spent with Thomas going about his day pretending he's a great hero, and while it worked in the other episodes, here? Not so much. Not only does the superhero schtick wear out its welcome quick, but Thomas' pretending doesn't impact the story in any way. Some could argue that this is how Thomas keeps the screen all tidy, but even then, he could've just done that as himself.
There are also a few extremely dumb moments, such as when Thomas and Nia cleaning the screen, only for Kana to make it dirty again. This bums the two of them out...but they just learned how to clean the screen, like, two seconds ago. They clearly know the right way to do it, so what's stopping them from doing that again? It makes no sense why they can't just clean it again.
But to be fair, this episode isn't without its positives. There are a few funny moments, like the scene with the Troublesome Truck, the song they have is okay, the resolution they come to is pretty clever, and while I was never a fan of Thomas and the gang using their wheels as posable limbs, I'll admit...
